Galloway House Gardens

The original private gardens of The Earls of Galloway are situated at the centre of the estate. They are run by Galloway House Gardens Trust and are open to the public all year round.

Planted originally in the 1740s, the gardens feature an impressive array of rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas, with mature specimen trees, including huge Douglas firs, oaks and beech trees. There are also a number of more exotic species, like the “handkerchief tree”, which benefit from the unusually mild climate, owing to The Gulf Stream. The trust is a registered charity and welcomes donations to help meet the cost of maintaining the gardens (gallowayhousegardens.co.uk).
